Dr Marion Riggs
In 2003, Marion “Joe” Riggs led the grassroots start-up of the Student Society for Stem Cell Research, an internationally recognized organization in the field of regenerative medicine. Currently, he holds a post-doctoral research position in Vanessa Wheeler’s lab at the Center for Genomic Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he studies Huntington’s disease and onset modifiers associated with triplicate repeat expansion. Joe earned his PhD in the Integrative Life Science Program at Virginia Commonwealth University where his dissertation focused on the biology of human pluripotent stem cells and earned his Master's degree in bioinformatics from the University of South Florida. In 2018, he launched the 501(c)3, Loving Mind Institute, dedicated to advancing science, technology, and medicine for the treatment of mental illness and addiction. Joe is passionate about the promise of patient-derived pluripotent stem cell based models to aid our understanding of neurological disorders including conditions such as, Huntington’s, schizophrenia, depression, and addiction.
